Structural changes adviser / Stress & Load analysis |

After studying materials sciences at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, Clemens Dransfeld took a master’s degree in industrial design at the Domus Academy in Milan in 1992. He then set up Dyne Design Engineering, in cooperation with Julia Kopp. This business soon began to play a key role in the development of products requiring special expertise in composite materials engineering. Because of his passion for sailing, Clemens became involved in several projects for lake racing boats, Olympic class yachts and two America’s Cup campaigns. After spending 15 years in the composites industry, he was appointed Professor at the University of Applied Sciences of North West Switzerland (FHNW) where he is in charge of the Polymers Engineering Institute. |

Project adviser & Hydrodynamics analysis |
|
A graduate of the Higher National School of Advanced Technology (ENSTA) in Paris, Giorgio Provinciali took a second engineering degree at the Milan Politecnico. In the course of his studies, he was involved in the “Advanced Technology” hydrofoil catamaran project which held the world speed record for class D sailboats from 1997 to 2007 achieving an average of more than 42 knots over 500 metres. He also took a traineeship with the VPLP Van Peteghem-Lauriot Prevost naval architecture practice where he developed a dynamic VPP (Velocity Performance Prediction) project as back-up for the competition multi-hull project.
Since 2000, Giorgio has been working as a consultant in hydrodynamics and performance prediction in cooperation with Michel Kermarec.
He was a member of the design teams responsible for the very latest competition trimarans of the VPLP practice: Bonduelle, Gitana XI, Groupama 2 et 3, Foncia, Géant, Sodebo or Banque Populaire Max.
Since 2001 he has been a member of the design teams in charge of the Italian challengers for the America’s Cup, i.e. the Prada and Luna Rossa boats, with special responsibility for performance prediction and experimental hydrodynamics (tests in dry dock and wind tunnel).
Since December 2007, Giorgio Provinciali has been a consultant to the Design Team of the US challenger BMW Oracle for the 33rd America’s Cup. |
